Parafield Gardens High School has a strong focus on Digital Literacy that will enable students to be successful global citizens in the 21st century.
ICT is a significant feature in the school’s strategic plan and the school has invested heavily to support this vision. The Parafield Gardens High School Learning Technologies Program allows each student access to a Chromebook for use at school and the opportunity to continue its use at home via your home internet connection.
In combination with our Learner Management System, DayMap and the Google Suite Cloud Service, students are able to communicate and collaborate with peers and teachers. Enhanced communication features will enable parents/caregivers greater connection and insight into their child’s learning.
One-to-One device programs are a key element in an international move towards individualising learning, which increases the independence and self-initiated learning in students and extends learning beyond the classroom (anytime, anywhere). Students who have full time access to a computing device have been found to take greater pride and ownership over the knowledge they create, with a flow-on to more flexible forms of schooling. At PGHS One-to-One device program facilitated a complete pedagogical shift to this teaching & learning model at PGHS by students being able to access their virtual classrooms and developed a collaboration-culture within the school (between student <-> student, teachers <-> students and teachers <-> teachers). Furthermore, the PGHS One-to-One program helps extend formal learning communities to include parents, siblings and other people important in students’ lives.
As part of the PGHS fees a school managed device will be provided for students in Year 8 through to Year 12 in 2019 to use whilst a student at the school. The One-to-One program increases student’s productivity in and outside the classroom when completing assignments, projects, and other activities, with current tools and resources for the 21stCentury Learner.
