VET - Subjects

Vocational education and training (VET) enables students to acquire industry-standard skills and knowledge for work through a nationally recognised, industry-developed training package or accredited course. VET is delivered, assessed, and certified by registered training organisations (RTOs).

Undertaking VET may benefit students’ exploration of a variety of career pathways; it is not just reserved for a pathway within the trades (e.g. plumbing, automotive, and construction). Students can complete VET qualifications in a diverse range of industries, including, working with animals aged care, child care, food preparation, hospitality, hairdressing/barbering and beauty.

Why study VET?
VET is an excellent choice of study for many students. It always includes practical, hands-on learning, as well as theory, and it can lead to excellent employment opportunities in many fields. Studying VET as part of the SACE gives students a ‘head start’ towards full qualifications. This is a great way to fast-track progress towards a rewarding career, while also developing independence and time-management skills. By undertaking a VET course students can gain dual accreditation, in both the SACE and a nationally accredited qualification. Furthermore, they can develop readiness to obtain an apprenticeship, traineeship or, with some areas of study, industry ready qualifications. Please note, students will be assessed for entry into VET courses and must be working at a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to be offered a position in a VET course.

VET at Parafield Gardens High School
Parafield Gardens high School offers a range of VET pathways, some of which are delivered at Parafield Gardens High School,, along with other courses which are delivered locally, through the Northern Region (NASSSA). These courses have been made available through the alliance formed by the 12 state schools in the Northern Adelaide Region in partnership with a range of and other Registered Training Organisations, including TAFE. VET courses are generally delivered one day per week and students will miss regularly scheduled lessons to attend their VET Learning. A VET Pathway is personalised to each students’ aspirations and must be planned in partnership with the VET Coordinator.
